Instasnaps

Day trip to the City - an often reoccurring event...

Instagram has been a favourite of mine long before Facebook bought the rights - I have snapped & snapped and have really enjoyed the process of transforming a very ordinary photo into something very different through filtering & layering. I haven't blogged any of them till now, as I have felt it's a cheats way to photography - really, it's done on an iPhone - no comparison to my Canon 600, but Instagram  allows for creativity and loads of exploration, which is a whole heap of fun. The practicality & convenience is also an added bonus. When you're travelling by public transport into the city with 2 under 5, carrying colouring books, pencils, storybooks, jackets, snacks....the last thing you want is the extra load of a bulky camera. No room.

So for now, as long as I'm still snapping and manipulating amongst the busy-ness of my children, then it will keep me satisfied. Another good tool for photo filters that is web based and mac compatible, is Pixlr-o-matic.  I have a wall in progress of filtered images that I have created using this program. I've enjoyed the different layering options, but like everything else, 'less is more' and the more options I have the longer my decision process is.

Paper Cuts

Intricate paper cuts created by Japanese artist, Hina Aoyama.

Unimaginable level of patience to practise something so remarkable as this form of art. What a skill and an incredible amount of talent.

two favourites

I've been playing with my two favourite mediums - fabric & paper. It was a nice outlet after a silly week. Even more so as I haven't been creating for sometime (heat packs don't count) so to sit and fiddle with mess all around me & with the footy on in the background was very relaxing. Of course that meant neglecting the kids for most of the day - and that was fine because they did their own creating!

Warm feelings

I've been enjoying the short bursts of sunshine of late - Spring is not far and mentally I am preparing for adventurous sunny days ahead. Early this year we spent loads of energy preparing this little cubby for the girls to enjoy on warm days, sadly Summer quickly passed and the days grew cool quite quickly, so they didn't spend as much time in here as we thought they would. Hopefully this year will be different.

I'm getting inspired to design this space the way I imagined it would be for our little girls to enjoy, before they begin to think it's too uncool to play in a cubby *sigh*

A big thanks to these people.

Amazing

Silkscreened, digital, laser cut light reflective and embossed prints. Collaboration - Kate Banazi & Dion Lee
My oh my, hasn't textile printing come along way since the 90's! I'm in awe of the talent that's out there. Makes me want to get my hands dirty again.

the latest

Once again, it's been a while since I've put up a post. There has been making going on - just a little. Here are a few snapshots, as well as highlighting some beautiful gifts of late.
Bits of my craft room.
Vintage box - full of very old buttons! - gift from Shell (passed on by her late grandmother).
There are some real gems here.
More lavender heat packs in the making.

Daisy Lane Swap Cards - gift from Lara.
 Awesome Ikea storage boxes.
Paper craft ideas - gift from Kylee.
My love for feathers - gift from Lara.
Delightful paper goods - gift from Bella.
Liberty pillows - finally sewn up.

Plywood cubes for the girls' rooms - the top right is a hoarding box made from recycled billboards. Made by David Waterworth from Against the Grain.

More pillows made - large one by me. These day beds need heaps of cushions...it's a slow progress.
